Three PSL Stars will considered for the T20 World Cup

Many high-profile overseas players who were available in the draft could not make their availability to the HBL PSL 9 then it was the sole responsibility of the local talent to emerge victorious and they made it with impressive strike rate and six-hitting ability.

Every emerging talent who appears this year at HBL PSL has the T20 World Cup in mind and comes into the radars of selectors for the Caribbean and USA leagues of the 20-20 World Cup. A few players from the current Pakistani team were already considered long ago, but here are 5 players who could also knock on the door by their performances shown in the Pakistan Super League.

Haider Ali

Haider Ali who was part of the Pakistan national team during the 2020-2023 cycle, but he couldn’t perform according to the situation and desire performed brilliantly in PSL 9. He played half of the league matches but was very impressive with his hard-hitting approach and runs down the ground. He played 5 innings with a strike rate of 163.50 and scored only 103 runs during over 11-16. This makes him suitable for selection committee members for key roles during the T20 World Cup.

Early days of his career he was used as top of the order while his specialty was to bat down the order mainly at the 5-6 position. Islamabad United brought him late in the replacement and asked him to play as he wanted down the order. There is a T20 series coming against New Zealand and this would be the trial for him to prove his extremely best at the international level and make him available for the T20 World Cup in the United States.

Haider Ali has indeed improved much but still a long way to go, as he is an occasional big hitter but not a guaranteed run scorer. In his last 12 out of 19 innings, he couldn’t even make it to the double figures. So selectors have to look at his temperament as well.

Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim announced his retirement due to the lack of opportunities after excessive performances across different leagues like the Bangladesh Premier League, and the Caribbean Premier League. His performance was brilliant across the formats like in the spin department he bowled extremely well and also impressed so many fans in Pakistan as well as the sea borders.

He was part of Pakistan’s national side after a historic win in the Champions Trophy 2017 as well as a match-winning knock against Afghanistan in Cricket World Cup 2019. He was also part of Pakistan’s prime performances in the T20 series against Australia and New Zealand and has been part of 11 consecutive series wins for Pakistan.

Due to his injuries, he left unpicked on so many occasions like the 2022 T20 World Cup and, the 2023 ODI World Cup. After getting disheartened he announced retirement after being unpicked on so many important occasions he was also in hot waters regarding his marks at Babar Azam and a few other players but he replied to everyone with his performance in HBL PSL 9. Now he has shown availability for the Pakistan National Side.

His economy of only 6.65 in a minimum of 25 overs was matchless across the world. His 61 wickets came before he turned 19 in Carribbean. His economy was 2nd to West Indian prime bowler Sunil Narine and started shaking the minds of selectors.

His matchless performances in all playoff matches of the Pakistan Super League were phenomenal. He couldn’t able to concede a boundary in the powerplay and well as did not allow any batter to hit him a long way. He scored 126 runs in his 9 innings with a strike rate of 128.57 along with 12 wickets with a economy rate of 6.60.

Usman Khan

He scored 430 runs in his 7 innings with a strike rate of 164.12, this is not the first time he performed but twist of fate that he scored 2 centuries and got out on 96 runs he is the main player behind multan sultans consistent approach to the finals of each PSL Season. But as of today, he is not even a member of the Pakistan team because he changed his affiliation to the  UAE back in 2022.

But there is no doubt about his consistency and hard-hitting ability to score runs with maximum strike rates touching 200. He was the 2nd leading run-scorer after Babar Azam in PSL 9. There is so much talk in the media regarding his comeback because he has 14 months left in qualification for UAE, and he is also hungry to play for Cricket Pakistan

As the T20 World Cup is in the pipeline fans desperately want him to play for Pakistan cricket but he shows immense disappointment towards the management of the Pakistan Cricket Board due to the lack of opportunities given to him. He also has a clear stance regarding what he said,

“I will play for UAE to show PCB my talent”

T20 World Cup 2024 Hosts

as we all know T20 World Cup is likely to be happening in the United States and West Indies, there are high chances of shorter boundaries but short pitches with a high risk of big scoring games, and these quality hitters will be a plus if they’re coming into the national side of Cricket Pakistan.
