Iftikhar seals the show Zalmi snatches the win from Sultan

Iftikhar Ahmad scored a blistering 60 of just 27 balls but could not take Sultans over the line. Peshawar Zalmi snatched the victory from the sultan in the last hour in the Pakistan Super League on Tuesday. Iftikhar Ahmad is Pakistan’s top middle order and hitter in limited-overs cricket. He usually bats for Pakistan at 4 in ODI and 6 in T20.

Babar Azam Strike Rate

Multan Sultan is the only consistent team in Pakistan Super League 2024 who table top in almost every season. But Multan Sultan is only beaten twice in this PSL 9 tournament by Peshawar alone. Babar Azam is in his prime form he scored a majestic 64 with a 150+ strike rate. His batting is improving day by day which is a good sign for team Pakistan before the T20 World Cup 2024.


Sultan as mentioned are toppers of the PSL 9 season they already qualified for the playoffs, while Babar Azam’s Peshawar moves closers for the top 4 as 2 games are still in hand. The match was played in Rawalpindi. Saim Ayyub and Babar Azam give a brilliant start to the team while Amir Jamal takes the team to the winning end with his splendid spell. 

Babar and Saim gave 84 runs in the opening partnership as Peshawar ended up scoring 204-5 in the 20 overs. Ayub was trapped by a leg spin in front of the stumps by Osama Mir meanwhile he hit 5 sixes and looked dangerous. 

Sultan’s Comeback

Zalmi performed extremely well with their blatant batting while Osama Mir had other plans, he strikes back to back wickets and put the Sultans in a commanding position. He struck Saim Ayub LBW(Leg Before Wicket), and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and then took the key wicket of Babar by clean bowled. Rovman Powell and Amir Jamal played important cameos in the death overs to put Peshawar in the winning position.


Sultans’ top-order struggled 

While batting second Multan Sultans starts crumbling against the spin department, especially against Mehran Mumtaz. They bowled brilliantly in the power play and took a good wicket of Reeza Hendricks on 5 only. 

Zalmi Jamal vs Sultan’s Rizwan

Muhammad Rizwan just gave the soft touch to the bowl and started running, while Jamal showed brilliance in athleticism and took the bowl and hit the stump. Rizwan dived but couldn’t survive, stumps flying off the ground and Rizwan started walking to the pavilion. Upon 3rd umpire, Rizwan was not even in the picture. 


Iftikhar Blatent Show

It was all over for Multan Sultan they were moving with a run rate of 6 while the asking rate was 13.00. Then came the brilliance of Iftikhar Ahmad who smashed a couple of sixes all over the ground to put Sultan in the commanding position. He pulsed Peshawar under extreme pressure and all the bowling lines of Peshawar lost the line and length. He scored 60 of just 27 balls. 

Jordan Iftikhar Partnership

It was all over for Sultans but Jordan and Iftikhar had other plans their partnership put them back on track with the blistering partnership of 75 runs in just 28 balls.  but Zalmi’s pacers just about managed to hang on in the last three overs. In the end, Peshawar Zalmi won a nail-biter by 4 runs.


Iftikhar Ahmad is renowned for his brilliant batting, he is a lower-order batsman with hard-hitting skills especially against the pacers, his favorite area of hitting is the leg side with his front font indicating straight. whenever he wants to hit big he comes forward of off the stump and hits hard for six. he played extremely well in the T20 2022 against India.
